The importance of having a positive attitude can’t be overstated, especially where our businesses are concerned. This usually doesn’t happen automatically, though. It requires that you take care of your soul (your mind). I was reading about a man named, George Müller, a missionary and pastor who started an orphanage. He was born in Germany in 1805. As you might imagine, he was very busy. However, instead of getting up and delving into his chores, he took time to make “his soul happy in the Lord.” He considered this to be his most important job and would spend hours every day reading the Bible, meditating and praying.
I believe that his taking the time to commune with God and “get his soul right” was the key to his success. Over the course of his life, he built five orphan houses and cared for over 10,000 orphans, established 117 schools to educate over 120,000 children and adults, From 1875 to 1892, at the age of 70, Mr. Mueller began traveling and continued until he was 87. He traveled over 200,000 miles (before airplanes) to 42 different countries and preached to three million people!
In my humble opinion, this principle of making sure your mind is right (i.e. having a positive attitude) needs to be top priority for anyone who wants to be successful. In case you’re still not convinced, let’s look at some of the benefits:
Enhanced Problem-Solving: Positivity helps you approach challenges with a can-do attitude. It’s like having a toolbox full of solutions. You’re more likely to find creative ways to overcome obstacles.
Adaptability: Online business is always changing. A good mindset allows you to be more adaptable, like a tree bending in the wind. You’re open to trying new strategies and adjusting to the ever-evolving digital landscape.
Increased Productivity: A positive mindset can boost your energy and motivation. It’s like having a battery that’s charged up – you can tackle tasks with enthusiasm, leading to increased productivity in your online ventures.
Confidence Boost: When you believe in yourself and your abilities, it’s like having a strong foundation for your business. It attracts opportunities and makes others trust in your capabilities.
Better Decision-Making: Positivity helps clear the fog of uncertainty. It’s like having a clear road ahead. You can make decisions more confidently, trusting your instincts and judgment.
Resilience in Setbacks: Online entrepreneurship has its ups and downs. Positivity acts as a safety net. You’ll be able to bounce back from setbacks quicker, learning from them rather than getting discouraged.
Stronger Relationships: Positivity is contagious. It’s like spreading sunshine. When you maintain a positive outlook, it reflects in your interactions with clients, partners, and customers, fostering stronger and more positive relationships.
Innovation and Creativity: Positive thinking encourages a mindset of possibility and innovation. It’s like opening doors to new ideas. You’re more likely to come up with creative solutions and innovative ways to grow your business.
Remember, staying positive isn’t about ignoring problems; it’s about facing them with optimism and a belief that you can overcome them. It’s a powerful tool in the entrepreneurial toolbox, contributing to your overall success and well-being in the online business world.
Negative emotions such as worry and fear on the other hand can keep you from moving forward in your business. They can obscure your vision, lead to hesitation and second-guessing, creating a sense of uncertainty that may hinder you from making clear decisions. Fear, especially, can paralyze your progress by preventing you from taking necessary risks or exploring new opportunities.
So now that we see the importance of having a positive attitude, let’s start our days with positivity: Just as Müller dedicated time each day to make his soul happy, entrepreneurs can benefit from starting their days with positivity. Here are some ideas to help you prepare your mind for the challenges and opportunities ahead:
Gratitude Journaling: Write down three things you’re grateful for. It could be a successful project, supportive clients, or even a good night’s sleep.
Morning Affirmations: Repeat positive affirmations to yourself. Remind yourself of your strengths and capabilities. For example, say, “I am capable of overcoming challenges and achieving my goals.”
Visualize Success: Take a few moments each morning to close your eyes and picture yourself achieving your goals. See the success of your online business, imagine happy customers, and visualize overcoming any challenges.
Set Daily Goals: Outline your priorities for the day. Having a clear plan can give you a sense of direction and accomplishment.
Healthy Breakfast: Fuel your body with a nutritious breakfast. It can positively impact your mood, energy levels, and focus throughout the day.
Positive Content Consumption: Start your day by reading or watching something positive or motivational. It could be a blog, video, or podcast that inspires you.
From this article, you can see the importance of having a positive attitude and how it’s connected to your success as an entrepreneur. I’ll end with a quote by Brian Tracy, “We believe that 95% of your emotions are determined by the way you talk to yourself as you go throughout your day. The sad fact is that if you do not deliberately and consciously talk to yourself in a positive and constructive way, you will, by default, think about things that will make you unhappy or cause you worry and anxiety. Your mind is like a garden. If you do not deliberately plant flowers and tend them carefully, weeds will grow without any encouragement at all.”

The Brian Tracy quote at the end is pure gold. Negative self-talk is something that I’m constantly working. By that I mean, I’m working to turn my negative self-talk into positive self-talk.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post, Rick. I’m so glad the Brian Tracy quote resonated with you. I know from personal experience that negative self-talk can be a tough habit to change but thankfully, it does get easier over time.
