Would you like to be more creative? Does it seem like your imagination took a hike? While there are many techniques and strategies that can help you generate ideas, in this article I’m covering a more practical side- how to have more energy. As you might guess, fatigue and low energy levels are not compatible with being creative.
Energy levels affect how well our brain works and how motivated we feel. When we have high energy, our brain can process information better, our thinking is clearer and it’s easier to come up with new ideas. It’s also easier to stay focused and pay attention, which allows us to dive deep into our thoughts and make connections between different ideas.
High energy levels also often mean we’re in a better mood which motivates us to try new things and be more creative.
In short, maintaining good energy levels helps our brain function at its best, keeps us motivated, and improves our mood—all of which are important for being creative. Here are some strategies to help you feel more energized:
*Limit the amount of unhealthy foods that you eat. This includes foods that are processed, or made from white flour or that have added sugar. These foods may temporarily give you a boost of energy but later on, you may experience a sharp drop in your energy levels. Instead, eat healthier foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, whole grains and complex carbs.
*Stay hydrated. One reason that fatigue can set in is because of toxic build-up in your body due to normal metabolic processes. Drinking water can help detox your system and increase energy levels. Another benefit is that the brain functions better when it’s fully hydrated. You’ll be able to think faster, be more focused, and experience greater clarity and creativity.
*Exercise regularly by adding some physical activity into your daily routine. Even a short walk can boost your energy and creativity. Regular physical activity boosts your cardiovascular system, improving blood flow and oxygen supply to your muscles and brain, which helps you feel more energized. It also reduces stress and anxiety and triggers the release of endorphins, which are natural mood lifters.
*Get enough sleep. Sleep is essential for boosting energy because it allows the body and brain to rest and recover. During sleep, your body repairs tissues, builds muscle, and strengthens the immune system. Your brain also processes information and consolidates memories, which helps you think clearly and feel more alert. Without enough sleep, you feel tired, less focused, and less able to handle daily tasks. Most healthy adults need 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
*Have a cup of green tea. Green tea is a good way to boost energy, increase alertness, and reduce fatigue. It contains caffeine, but unlike coffee and other caffeinated drinks, green tea has a more gentle effect because it contains an amino acid called L-theanine that promotes calm and focused energy. It’s more gentle and you won’t get the jittery feelings and the energy crashes often associated with other drinks.
*Consider using natural supplements to boost your energy levels. For example, ginseng is often used to enhance energy levels, improve cognitive function and reduce fatigue. Ashwagandha is credited with reducing mental and physical fatigue, thus increasing energy levels. If you decide to do this, consult your healthcare professional first and make sure to use high-quality supplements from reputable brands.
*Get Some Sun. Sunshine can help you be more creative in several ways. First of all, it increases the production of serotonin, a hormone that makes you feel happy. When you’re in a good mood, you’re more likely to think creatively and come up with new ideas. Sunlight also boosts your vitamin D levels, which is important for brain function, and improves your ability to come up with ideas. It also stimulates melatonin production which can lead to better sleep so you’ll be more alert, focused, and creative during the day. However, as you spend time in the sun, make sure to avoid getting sunburned!
As we study the topic on how to be more creative, it’s easy to see why it’s so important to keep our energy levels up. When we have plenty of energy, our brain works better, allowing us to think clearly, stay focused, and generate new ideas. High energy also puts us in a better mood and encourages us to engage in creative activities. And we can help maintain our energy levels, by following a healthy diet, staying hydrated, exercising regularly, and making sure that we get enough sleep.
