I enjoy using silk flowers in my craft projects and always save the leftovers. I like to take them apart and layer them with other flowers. If they are not the right color for the project I’m working on, I’ll color them with acrylic or spray paint. Then I might add some glitter, and glue a button or brad to the center.
Here is an example of a simple but beautiful card I made using silk flowers.
For this project I used:
2 silk daisy-like flowers
2 shades of fabric (or acrylic) paint, light blue and navy
paint brush
card formed from white cardstock
brown textured paper, slightly smaller than card front
strip of white paper lace or mesh material
two silver metal buttons and a word charm
brown jute string
permanent glue stick, tacky glue
Take your flowers apart and color them in shades of blue. On one flower, use navy paint in the center and light blue on the petals, blending the color together in the middle. For the other flower, reverse the colors. Leave to dry.
Adhere brown paper to center of card. Next, glue the strip of paper lace along top of card (as shown) and glue the flowers onto the lace. Put a button in the center of each card. To finish, put jute string through the holes in the metal charm and attach it along bottom of card.
If you don’t have fabric paint, plain acrylic paint works fine, the flowers will just be a bit stiffer. I noticed a lot of strings on my flowers when I got done painting, so I used a lighter and carefully burned off the strings (I don’t care for the melted petal look :). Another option is to use a small pair of sharp scissors and cut off the strings.
