Having an organized craft room will help you be more creative. When your environment is free of clutter, it’ll be easier to focus on your projects. You’ll also have more time and be more productive because you won’t have to spend hours looking for things–everything will have its own place.
If your space needs a lot of work, to the point where it seems overwhelming, try breaking it down into manageable sections. Take time to analyze the situation. Ask yourself some questions. What items do I use frequently that need to be at my fingertips? Which items do I hardly ever use? Is there a way to add more shelves? What don’t I like about the room? Some examples might be … not enough light, have to move stuff before I can start working, have to walk a long way to get water to clean my brushes. What, if anything, can I do to change it?
Perhaps you need more furniture for storage. Look around your house. Is there any furniture or other items that could be repurposed for your craft area? For example an unused hamper could be used to store old jeans and clothes you’ve saved for future craft projects. A breadbox could hold all your decorative scissors or adhesives.
Get a vision of what you want your finished craft room to look like. Find images in home decorating magazines, read books on organizing, and look on websites such as Pinterest for ideas on how to create an organized work area. You could also take a walk through your local home improvement store and see what they have available in their storage and organization section.
Make a complete list of what needs to be done: find container for my beads and unfinished bead projects, sort through old paintings and drawings, put all my paint brushes in a nice jar, get rid of dried up paints etc.
Set a regular time to work on your room and fit it into your schedule. It may be a half hour every day or an hour or two a week. Some days it’ll seem like you made no progress, other days you’ll be amazed at how much you get done. Just keep working at it. Eventually you’ll get it done.
