Being organized will help you be more creative. You’ll be able to focus better and will get more done, as well as being able to find and access what you need when you need it. No more wasting time looking for that misplaced paint pen or whatever else it might be. Here are some tips to help you get organized.
Keep all your frequently used items within easy reach. For example, I use my acrylic paints for almost every project so I have them stacked on the floor by my chair in two shallow boxes. I can easily see what color they are because I dabbed a bit of paint on top of their lids.
I keep some stackable wicker baskets with my adhesives, tape, glue, and scissors etc. by the side of my table within easy reach. I keep my cutting mat and paper cutter on a card table for easy access and stack labeled shoe boxes underneath. I also keep some of the smaller supplies in a box on my work table.
Paper can be organized according to color or type. It can be stored in shallow boxes or on a shelf or in stackable paper trays.
If you keep old books to use in your projects, you can store them in a basket or stack them on a shelf or floor.
If you have the room, beads and other small objects could be placed in clear glass or plastic containers and stored on a shelf or counter.
You could use an over-the-door shoe organizer to hold small tools and embellishments. This is a great way to use unused closet space. There are many kinds to choose from but one with clear pockets will make it easier to find what you’re looking for.
Use stackable storage bins with drawers, rather than totes, to avoid the annoyance of having to move all the boxes when you need something that’s on the bottom.
After you’ve got everything the way you want it, keep it organized by taking the time to tidy up and put things away when you are done working on a project. I once heard an expert say that if everything has a “home” it should only take you a few minutes to put things away.
